Blog reflections

To tell you the truth, I do not have any favorite metaphors nor know any of them. Nonetheless, I will still deacibe the most important lesson I have learnt during my EIR journey. The most important lesson I hav learn is to be able to make use of the facilities and functions of search engines to search for information. When doing research, one needs information. Before using the Internet, I have learnt that it is beat to strategie. To organize what you want to search and translate it into keyword when searching.

Another thing I have learnt is how to filter out unwanted information that is not revelant to my topic. When searching for information, you can filter the results of your search by selecting the date, domino or the link of te data. With all the techniques and skills I learnt during the journey. I believe I can surf the Internet effectively, being able to list out desirable information with ease. As for A metaphor, I hve just thought of one, 'life is a zoo in a jungle.'

Practical worksheet 8&9 (Second life and multimedia website Dream holiday)

I chose Japan as my dream destination because I have always wanted to go there as it is my favourite country and my first choice of going overseas. The people there are always respecting each other and displaying have good manners wherever they go.
Japan has a lot of different cites and places, providing an endless number of sites to exploring. There is a great variety of foods and products produced for different prefectures in Japan. There are tons of beautiful sceneries such as Mount Fuji, sakura trees and oceans.
In Japan, there are different types of cultures such as the Japanese tea ceremony,   dialects, festivals and much more.
In Japan, there is a group of people known as otakus. These people are hardcore fans of animes, manga, cosplay, and games. An event is held annually for fans of anime and manga. If you are a tourist, this should be placed top of your ‘must see’ list for you can find people young and old, dressed up as their favourite characters from animes, games and manga. This has become a growing trend and culture among the youngsters in Japan.

Multimedia Website
I chose http://www.jnto.org.sg/ as my multimedia website because it has a lot of text, audios, still images, animation, videos, and there’s interactivity in the website. It is done by the Japan National Tourism Organization Singapore Representative Office. This means the information provided by the website is accurate and safe.
I like this website because the information is updated every time. It also has maps of towns, cities, information on transportation, attractions, essential, accommodation and other in Japan. The multimedia website has shown me a lot of videos in Japan. It also has a lot of websites linked to this website. I like the videos because the background of the video is the place where I want to visit. I feel this website is easyto access and a great source of information that is needed for the holiday trip.

Reflections 2 ( Tutorial Worksheet 3&4 )

Tutorial Worksheet 3&4

Twitter is very easy to navigate and update, links to other website and promote anything. It is user friendly and also can expand ypur circle of friends. We can not only check to see what our friends or relatives are doing, we can also express our own status and opinions too.

It has pure communication tools, rapid responsiveness which is used for chatting with our friends and is useful when we are using our computers outside or overseas.

Twitter also has its disadvantage as it has a limited functionality which find people, send messages and direct replies.

Facebook is also another social networking site similar to twitter but Facebook has lots of functions compared to twitter. But facebook is difficult to navigate and updates. Unlike twitter communication tool, facebook was responds showly unless you stay logged on continuously.
Facebook also can quicky grasp the value of connection to your friends, family and contacts. It can easily find people, email, instant messaging and image/video sharing to your friends/family.

Twitter should including games as it also can be part of entrainment for people using twitter. They should include search functions. They can also use twitter as a search engine which will be more useful for them if they are trying to search something. Besides search tools, they can add forums of different categories such as popular topics which can let all people see or participate.
Practical Worksheet 6

In this lesson, I have learnt how to use TP’s library's website to find information. The databases is similar to search engines, meta-search or subject directories. This databases can only be used by student and stuffs of TP only. TP’s Digital Library has divided in to different databases for newspaper article, journal article, book and other small databases.

I feel that the TP’s Digital Library is useful for me to find exam paper from a few years ago and to search information for my homework and others.

EBSCOhost databases

The search does give a lot of different results as I expected, some links contain different information and it allows you to read it in adobe reader and also allows you to save it to your folders. It also shows you the name of the websites creator and there are details on him or her.

On the right side of the webpage there are related images. On the left side of the webpage shows the number of amount of information generated by EBSCOhost databases (amount is 23816) and there are some funtions to chose to sefine search.
It also support full Boolean like NOT, AND, OR and some options for user to choose in this database. It has a lot of function like basic search, advanced search, visual search, search history and others.

On the top bar, there are some function like subjects, new search, publications, images and other for user and others. You can choose different languages for the foreigners to use their own mother tongue to search for information. This database has many different EBSCOhost databases and provides subjects for your course like art & architecture, business, communication, computer science design, education, engineering, film, food science, medical science, regional news, tourism, veterinary science.

 Newslink databases

a.    Do you think it is more effective to search the invisible web (databases) than using search engines, meta-search or subject directories? Why?

No because it has less information in the invisible a web compare to search engines, meta-search or subject directories. The search engines, meta-search or subject directories have information from all over the country. It can be used by the public but the invisible web only use for some of the people.

b.    Name ONE database which you will use for your research topic. Why?

I will use the EBSCOhost databases because it has a lot of functions to reduce search result and support full Boolean in my research topic. It is easy for me to use the function and easy to find information compared to other databases.

c.    Name ONE more database which you will use for your course. How will you use this database for your course?

I will use EBSCOhost databases and Newslink databases for my course. I will use it to search information for my project, assignment and others. Newslink databases help me to find information in newspaper articles and images. EBSCOhost databases help me to find information in journal articles and also find information under the subject for my course.

Reflections

The E-shopping website and advocacy websites differences are:

-  E-shopping is about shopping online while this advocacy website tells us about the earth and nature.

-  E-shopping does not teach you how to buy a particular item online. While advocacy websites teaches you how to save money from buying second hand stuff, Reusing the stuff and buying long-lasting items.

- E-shopping is what you spend your money for stuff while advocacy websites allows you can donate money to help the environment.

Different website have different purposes, most website allows you to search for information, answers and meanings , also there are some websites that lets you donate money to help others. You need to go through these websites throughly to know more about the topic as you may encounterer some problems for example,  most websites are fakes , meaning the people who created them want to con people of their money and may pass a virus into your computer.

I have learnt about the diffience between E-shopping online and shopping in Second Life. I find that shopping on the net allow you to look and buy a lot of goods from different countries or place or shops. I can see the cost , information , type of design and others about the goods.

I know about the propose and why there are a lot of differences to the type of website on the internet. Previously, I only know how to find useful information online that I can use for my homework , project and others.

I felt that I had a lot of fun during the lesson.

Reflections

The E-shopping which I experienced let me see the items features, price and details clearly , making it hard for me to choose which product I want to purchase. As for the second life virtual shopping , i can chat with other people inside the game and also shopp at the same time.

The difference between  E-shopping and second life are E-shopping can let buy stuff with real money. As for second life shopping , you cannot buy their goods to be used in real life except in the game.

The design of the watch which makes me feel motivated to buy this watch. And this watch is also well made , beautiful , white and shiny. Also this watch can be given as a gift to my mother as Mother's Day present.

This polaroid camera design is cute and has a lot of functions. Also this camera is light and you can carry this anywhere , wherever you go.

I chose this bag because it has alot of multipurpose pockets inside and it is made of leather. Also this bag can be carried as a sling bag.
